Prof. Karakan received his medical degree from the University of Hacettepe, Ankara. He completed training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Gazi University He is currently Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology. His research interests focus on Gut Microbiota, FMT and Probiotics. He is the founder and president of Turkish Gut Microbiota and Probiotics Association. He had training in advanced endoscopic procedures, mainly on EUS, at Johns Hopkins University in 2011. He is the academic Editor-in-chief of World J Gastroenterology and associate editor in Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr Karakan has authored more than 50 manuscripts, reviews and also book chapters on probiotics. He has also participated in Probiotic Guideline of WGO.
