The International Scientific Symposium on Bacteriocins and Antimicrobial Peptides – BAMP2019
will be held on Monday 17th June, the day prior to IPC2019.

The selection of the subject fields will be based on the feedback of former IPC participants. Symposium serves as scientific forum where academic and industrial scientists involved in the respective research area meet. Further to its scientific content the symposium is a networking event.  Abstracts of oral presentations and posters will be published in the official proceedings of the IPC 2019.

The programme of the Scientific Symposium on Bacteriocins focuses on the developments in the science, research and application of bacteriocins.

Current advances in isolation, characterization and application of bacteriocins will be presented. Internationally renowned experts from industry and academia will discuss the mechanisms of action and the role of bacteriocins in food safety. It is the goal of the symposium to further explore the potential of already known and novel bacteriocins by disseminating latest results and presenting new ways of bacteriocin research. The horizon of the application of bacteriocins have been enlarged and based on intensive research worldwide, novels applications of bacteriocins have been addressed.

Bacteriocins are bacterially-produced antimicrobial peptides that can have killing or inhibitory activity principally against other relatively closely-related bacterial species. Some bacteriocins of the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have for many years been extensively applied in food biopreservation. Oldest one is nisin that from 1933 has his history. However, a number of scientific reports have appeared about unanticipated extensions to the generally rather narrow anti-bacterial activity spectrum of some of the LAB bacteriocins and novel applications have been proposed for bacteriocins ranging from controlling the growth of an increasingly-heterogeneous variety of pathogens, including Gram negative multidrug resistant bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and Mycobacterium spp., to their potential application as anticancer agents.

We believe that this will be a forum focus on presenting and discussing different examples of applications of bacteriocins and pointing at the future applications (outside of the classical biopreservation) based on the critical analysis of previously published data with somewhat insufficient arguments for such applications.
